Movie Maker Projects and Stopmotion Projects - April 27th 2018

Image
In the past few weeks, I've been working on some videos. I made 2 videos in Windows Movie Maker, one of which was all pictures about Pot-Bellied Pigs, and the latter which was a project I did with 2 partners, Kyle Wong and Taylor Rai. They were the actors and I was the director in our How to Hockey video. They were both a lot of fun to make and the latter is hilarious. I also did 2 Stopmotion Videos, both of which were very short and done with Taylor Rai. The first one is Pac-man being drawn, and the second one is Taylor sliding on the ground. The first one was made in Funmotion, and the latter was made with iMotion. I hope you enjoy!

April 24th - Genius Hour Blog #5

The past week was a really fun week in info tech. I did a movie with Taylor and Kyle and it was a lot of fun and was hilarious. There were a lot of laughs as we did our filming and the movie is great. I hope to release it soon. On Monday, we did our 5th Genius Hour, and I decided to spend the time working on my if statements and arrays. I have some trouble with arrays and after messing around with data types, I got my code to work. However, as I was adding something to my project that involved calling certain spots in an array and inputting information into an array, there was a problem. My online compiler went offline, and my local compiler wasn't installed yet so I couldn't write anything or test my new section. I ended up spending the last ~15 minutes waiting and hoping the compiler would come back online, but it never did and I left with an incomplete goal. I could have tried another compiler, but the online compilers are weird and often out of date so projects ...

Switch Statement!       I feel like the last Genius Hour block I had was rather productive. While I did get a little bit sidetracked during the end of the block, for the first 70 minutes I was very focused. I learned quite a bit about Switch statements, which I can use to create a menu for my programs and allow them to do different functions. Also, I learnt about pointers, which I don't think I'll need to use unless I decide to use structures in something but its pretty basic and good to know. Some challenges that I faced when trying to create a useless program that would use a switch statement or pointers is my compiler. I had to switch compilers halfway through because one was outdated. Also I was a little tired because I didn't feel to great despite it being the last block of the day and I didn't feel like I did too much. Next week I hope to do some work on structures and get the 2D array to print out properly. The most important thing I learned was to check ov...

This is the code I wrote yesterday with some help from the website I was using.         The past Monday was probably the first full day I've had to learn and prepare my Genius Hour project. The past few Mondays have been just me preparing documents for my project, such as the Inspiration web and the Prezi Proposal. Obviously, I had a great time on Monday, as I just took the last block of the day to learn some more basics about C++. I tested arrays and finally learned how to print out two-dimensional arrays after a lot of mistakes and trial and error. I also did some learning on strings, structures, and pointers which will help as lot with my projects. I was really happy at the end because I barely got my array to print out the array, and now I want to learn how to do output with other characters like letters. I would say overall the day was a success, but there were a few incidents, including the times I replaced semi-colons with commas, and forgetting how the l...

The NSS Robotics Team Logo                  Hi again! Sadly nothing has really happened with Genius Hour in the last week or so. I've been a bit busy after a trip and spent most of Tuesday working on my proposal, which you can find here . The whole project is official, the goal will be to learn enough C++ to write 4 practical projects. I guess my not working on Genius hour during the break was a failure, but I'll just have to work harder and spend more time on it. I should use my spare/free time better, and genius hour would be a great way to use it.                   As stated before, I spent most of Tuesday on my proposal so it would be only fair if I spent some time reviewing it. In my proposal, which was done on Prezi, I talked about what I already wrote about in Blog #1 - that I would be using C++, make 4 practical projects, etc. However, I also wrote about what I wanted to show ...

Proposal

Above you will find my proposal for my Genius Hour project, where I will be using C++ to write 4 practical projects which I will present at the Celebration of Learning. More details are in the Prezi.

One of the websites I hope to learn from.          Over the last few weeks, we have been preparing our Genius Hour projects, where we will be using Mondays to learn something we want to do and present the project near the end of the semester at the "Celebration of Learning". I did an Inspiration chart which showed what I want to learn, how I would learn it, and how I would present it at the Celebration of Learning. At the end, I decided I wanted to learn C++ , and learn it through the internet (with websites like https://www.cprogramming.com) and some friends while presenting 4 practical projects at the Celebration of Learning. The whole Genius Hour concept makes me feel really good about life because it gives me something to look forward to in school. It takes the whole structured thing out of school and allows me to do something I want to do, and encourages me to do better. The main challenge I was facing was what I actually wanted to do. It really t...
